Bundaberg family owned and operated business in running for prestigious international gong

Kalki Moon Master distiller and founder Rick Prosser is proud to be nominated for another international award.

Popular family-owned distillery Kalki Moon is in the running for an International Gin Award.

The distillery which opened in 2017 is one of just a handful of Australian gin distillers in the running.

The award is Kalki Moon’s- second nomination for the International Gin Producer Trophy.

In its nomination Kalki paid tribute to its sustainability and innovative methods, which includes transparency in and around the production of the gin range.

Master distiller and founder Rick Prosser holds the belief that the greater public should know where the product is made and freely ask questions of distillers and staff alike when visiting its operation.

During Distillery tours visitors are explained in depth the process of how the company produces its award-winning London Dry Gin’s.

Kalki sources the highest quality ingredient’s starting with certified sustainable Australian grain ethanol and uses certified agents and brokers for the highest quality Macedonian Juniper berries and botanicals.

Its post-production waste is sent in two different directions.

The bulk goes to a locally owned disability support facility, Endeavour, who use it in worm gardens for mulch cultivation.

The rest goes to The Australian Gin Soap Company which makes body care products.

The prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition is an annual wine and spirit competition founded in 1969.

Each year the competition receives entries from over 90 countries worldwide.

Why Kalki is special:

Kalki was set up on the fumes of an oily rag by a husband with a dream to succeed in an industry he loved with the loyal support of his wife.

Founder Rick Prosser was told producing and selling Gin in a town that has over 130 years of Rum history wouldn’t work or be successful.

Kylie and Rick both worked second jobs whilst running the distillery to make sure the bills got paid and proudly promoted and educated our locals about the production of Gin and ways to consume.

The company has never borrowed from a financial institution with the company built on hard work and determination to succeed by a family, who were told it couldn’t be done!
