HOCKEY: Bundaberg was well represented at the Queensland Festival of Indoor Hockey, for Open and under 18’s played in Brisbane.

The two-day tournament was held at the Kedron State High School Indoor Sports Hall.

Hockey Queensland created the event to ensure selectors were given every opportunity to watch the best players from around the state in a competition environment.

Over the past weekend, Ryley Stevens, Ryan Maclean, Sam Aitkenhead and Isaac Wales travelled to compete as part of the festival to earn selection into the state teams announced next week.

The four players won the weekend after their performances at the recent indoor state titles played late last year.

All four players were placed in teams of mixed age groups to ensure all players displayed their skills.

Issac Wales played for the Redbacks, Sam Aitkenhead for the Sharks, Ryley Stevens for the Galahs, and Ryan MacLean as a goalkeeper played for many teams.

Ryley’s team made it to the final against Goanna’s.

Queensland Hockey cancelled the under 15 and 13 tournaments scheduled to follow. Several stakeholders tested positive for COVID, and Hockey Queensland chose to reduce the risk of potential further infections.

The announcement of state teams is expected on January 15.
