Bundaberg residents now have three choices when it comes to getting the covid-19 vaccine.

Moderna is now available after the Federal Government released 440,000 doses this week around the country to be administered by Pharmacies.

It joins Astra Zeneca and Pfizer as the three approved vaccines by the Therapeutic Goods Administration to be used in Australia.

Up to 80,000 of those doses were sent to Queensland with more from the Federal Government expected to be sent to the state in the next few weeks.

The vaccine, described as being similar to Pfizer, requires two doses, four weeks apart, and is recommended for those between 12 and 59 years of age.

According to the Australian Government, ‘adults who had two doses of Moderna were about 94 percent less likely to become ill from COVID-19 than people who did not get the vaccine.’

People who want to get the Moderna vaccine can only get it a Pharmacies with the vaccine not available at Bundaberg TAFE (Queensland Health) or their local GP (general practice).

Bundaberg TAFE and the GP’s only do Astra Zeneca or Pfizer.

Some Pharmacies currently have it while others are planning on having Moderna in their stores by the end of September.

Bundaberg Today checked the online booking tool for getting a vaccine and Priceline Pharmacy, Chemist Warehouse, Bundaberg Discount Drug Store, Chemist Discount Centre, Terry White Chemist, Malouf Pharmacies, Chemist Outlet, Coral Coast Pharmacies and Blooms The Chemist were all available in Bundaberg.

In Bargara, Pharmacy Central has it, with Woodgate’s Woodgate Beach Pharmacy having it as well.

For Gin Gin and Childers no locations were listed but the Pharmacy Guild of Australia says both the Gin Gin Pharmacy and the Childers Community and Childers Friendlies Pharmacies are expected to have it by the end of September.
