An exhibition of artworks by CQUniversity Bundaberg Digital Media students, alongside works by professional and international artists, will highlight perspectives on mental health in the community.

The ‘Inside Out’ exhibition is a collaboration with Headspace Bundaberg and will feature Cassandra Roberts from Sabah, Malaysia and local professional photographer, Sabrina Lauriston.

CQUni Digital Media Lecturer Regina John Luan said the exhibition was part of a two-part project that would help the students gain exposure of their work while sharing their perspectives on mental health.

“It’s all about authentic learning, getting them to provide artworks for the exhibition and communicate their points of view to the local community,” she said.

“Having the international and professional artists will also allow the students to see a mixture of different artworks.

“For the community, it means they will get to discover the creatives in their area.”

She said the second part of the project would involve the Digital Media students interviewing local people experiencing mental health issues and creating new artworks for a follow up exhibition.

The Inside Out Exhibition launch opening will be held at the CQUniversity Bundaberg campus, Building 5 – Drama Barn, on Saturday 14th August from 9am. The exhibition will then be open to the public from 14-19 August from 10-3pm.

Last year Digital Media students had to hold their exhibition online, due to COVID-19. The virtual event can be viewed at https://www.artsteps.com/view/5f24a7b79471380e394c5bd5
