The Royal Flying Doctor’s Service saw proof of the difference a little determination and a community-focused club can make when they were presented with a donation of $1000 from Bundaberg’s Cruisin’ 4 A Cure Car Club on Thursday 18 November.

Club member Ken Barritt said members started to fund-raise as a thank-you to a service that had helped so many people, himself included.

“I was transferred by the flying doctor from Bundaberg to Brisbane in September 2020 for triple bypass surgery at Prince Charles Hospital, so saw what this incredible service provides,” he said.

“Having a base in Bundaberg means we receive a very localised service from the RFDS and it is incredibly supportive of the regional areas where it is definitely needed, especially as time counts when dealing with medical emergencies.

“While the RFDS receives some government assistance they truly need any extra help we can provide to keep the service running and as the name suggests Cruisin’ 4 A Cure Car Club understands that with our first donation and then second fund-raise for the RFDS’s Christmas Appeal.”

Club members were happy to present their donation to the RFDS and tour the base as well as helping kick start the Christmas appeal for donations.

RFDS Queensland section’s Bundaberg flight nurse Sabrina Montaldo thanked the car club for its generous donation.

“It gives us great pleasure to be reunited with patients like Ken and see them doing so well,” she said.

“It’s especially lovely that Ken and the club have now chosen to donate to the RFDS.

“Every dollar counts and we very much appreciate all contributions, so if you are able, please consider donating to the Flying Doctor this Christmas.”

Ken said a valuable service always ready to help others was really worth sparing a dollar or two for this Christmas.

“Why not make a donation in someone’s name this Christmas as that is a special gift that can really make a difference,” he said.
