Housing help just a part of fundraising golf day

While the event may have changed to a Friday afternoon of relaxing, fundraising golf, one things remains the same for the Carinbundi Foundation annual charity golf day.

Carinbundi community relations manager Tina Marshall said since the event was first held in 2019, they’ve had over 500 players registered and have received sponsorship support from more than 70 local businesses.

“Our major sponsor, local technology solutions company IT&C (formerly E-Flux) has generously supported the event from day one and this year they’ve outdone themselves with a range of excellent prizes, including iPads and other high value technology products,” she said.

“Over the years we have received some very generous and thoughtful donations from our friends and supporters, all of which have been 100 per cent invested in providing the highest quality services and homes.

“We put every dollar we receive to excellent use, but there’s always one more home we can provide.”

Ms Marshall added that the people of Bundaberg were very generous and always willing to support a great cause.

“What better way to spend a Friday afternoon, enjoying some fresh air, sunshine, 18 holes and spending time with mates and colleagues, all while raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

“The Ambrose competition is the ultimate way to play golf as a team, and it’s a lot of fun.

“We’ll also have a mobile drinks cart (organise a ride home), barbecue, putting competition and of course lucky door and other raffles on the day.

“The Carinbundi Foundation Charity Golf day has been a popular event for local people and businesses to be involved in, overall, it’s a great day out, an opportunity to get a round of golf in with friends and colleagues, with some excellent prizes on offer, and importantly to show support for the important work that the Foundation does to provide Homes for Life for people living with disabilities in the Bundaberg region.

“This year we’re giving a new format a go, hosting the event on a Friday afternoon – why not get a few hours work done in the morning, and take chance to sneak an extra round in for the week on Friday afternoon.”

Not only is this golf day a great afternoon out, it raises awareness of the Carinbundi Foundation.

Ms Marshall said people living with a disability want to live independently in the community, safely and with dignity.

“They want their own places to live, however you might be surprised to know that just like you and me they need to either own or rent their own homes,” she said.

“While the NDIS does fund many of the disability supports and programs people access, it does not pay participants’ rents.

“We use this event to bring awareness to this misconception and to highlight the important work that the Foundation does to build and purchase properties it can offer to people with a disability, at rental rates that are discounted from the open market rate.

“These are homes that people living with a disability can have for life – for as long as they want or need them.

“The rental market is challenging for everyone at the moment, however with the community’s help, we are giving security and peace of mind to residents and their families, knowing they have a long-term home for as long as they want or need one.

“Carinbundi has been one of Bundaberg’s trusted disability support provider for 30 years and we are very proud of this achievement.

“By hosting this Charity Golf Day, we are bringing awareness to the importance of housing security for people with disabilities in the community, and raising valuable funds to provide as many Homes for Life as we can.”

IT&C business development manager Neil Modi said supporting the Carinbundi Foundation’s Charity Golf Day aligns with their commitment to giving back to the community.

“As the major sponsor of the event, IT&C recognises the importance of providing quality accommodation for individuals living with disabilities,” Mr Modi said.

“Ensuring access to affordable homes is crucial, especially in today’s property market. We’re proud to be part of this initiative that offers long-term security and peace of mind to residents and their families.

“Let’s come together as a community and make a positive impact through this major fundraiser.”
