IWC, a leading local health provider, is thrilled to announce that their endorsed midwife, Stephanie Rackemann, has been recognised with two prestigious awards, the Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union (QNMU) People’s Choice Award and the Bullwinkel Scholarship for 2024.

As the leader of IWC’s Connected Beginnings Program, Stephanie’s outstanding contributions to healthcare have been acknowledged with these accolades.

The QNMU People’s Choice Award, determined by public vote, highlights her significant impact within the Bundaberg and North Burnett regions and the broader community.

IWC’s chief operating officer, Kathy Clarke, they were incredibly proud to have Stephanie as part of their extended family.

“Her commitment in providing holistic healthcare as our midwife, especially to families who might otherwise lack access to continuity of care, is what makes her work truly exceptional.

“More recently, her role in delivering our Connected Beginnings Program, alongside our Indigenous Health Workers, ensures that our First Nations children receive the support they need for the best start before school, in line with IWC’s model of care.”

These national recognitions underscore Stephanie’s dedication to enhancing rural healthcare and reflect her deep passion for both education and advocacy. Her nursing journey, from midwifery to end-of-life care, has been shaped by her empathy and commitment to providing compassionate, family-centred support.

Reflecting on her experiences as a midwife and nurse, Stephanie captures the essence of her work in these words:

“For a long time I thought I was not where I should be, but now I know this life is meant for me.

My new community are here, and to be fair how blessed am I to provide continuity of care.

Tired I get but it will never grow old to sit quietly at night watching life’s journey unfold.“

Through the Bullwinkel Scholarship, Stephanie completed the Nurse Director Leadership Program, equipping her with further skills to manage complexities in the healthcare landscape and better serve the communities she works together with IWC.
