Given the difference that clean clothes and a chat with someone that cares can make to someone who is homeless, the Orange Sky Laundry continues to be a valuable service, with the Bundaberg branch a welcome addition for many in need.
Therefore Bank of Queensland is excited on Wednesday 17 July to be matching donations dollar-for-dollar to their national community partner, Orange Sky, up to $50,000.
BOQ Bundaberg owner manager, Trudy Azzopardi said Orange Sky was a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing free mobile laundry and shower services to those in need.
“Their mission is to create a safe, positive, and supportive environment for individuals who often feel ignored or disconnected from the community,“ she said.
“We welcome donations throughout July, but there’s a special day to mark on your calendar – Dollar Match Day on 17 July, because on this BOQ will match your donation dollar for dollar, effectively doubling the support for Orange Sky.
“Our partnership with Orange Sky, which began in 2019, has been a journey of giving and growth.
“So far, BOQ has raised over $900,000 and this has enabled us to provide over 4,000 loads of laundry, more than 2,000 warm showers, support 538 volunteer shifts, and foster 4,300 hours of positive conversation.“
Orange Sky’s chief operating officer, Shayne Herriott said the demand for their services has increased across Australia by 21 per cent in the last financial year, meaning BOQ’s support couldn’t come at a better time.
“This year alone we’ve provided more than 41,000 loads of free laundry and more than 3,100 hot showers to our friends in need.
“So, with the support of the Bank of Queensland, we’re able to help provide even more relief and bring a deeper sense of connection to those who are doing it tough,” he said.
Every dollar truly makes a difference:
$24 provides a friend in need with clean laundry and a warm shower.
$115 enables a volunteer to offer two hours of connection through conversation.
$288 supports an entire shift of clean laundry, warm showers, and hours of non-judgemental conversation.
