Having always been a communicator, visually, verbally and through the written word, it was only natural that Lucy Bloom became an author of three books, the host of her own podcast show and a contributor to CEO Magazine.

But she definitely had an interesting and diverse journey along the way to where she is today, complete with a fabulous bright pink mohawk that is only part of what helps her stand out from the crowd.

Lucy was born on a farm in Africa and went to law school then art school before she began her career in advertising.

In 2010, when she was neck-deep as the creative director of an advertising agency, Lucy Bloom wrote her first book – Cheers to Childbirth, a dad’s guide to childbirth support, a niche title specifically written to solve a problem, men are expected to attend the birth of their baby but no one was telling them how.

Her second book, a memoir, was commissioned by HarperCollins and published in 2019. That book has become a calling card for Lucy’s approach to life: just give it a red-hot go.

In 2021, when much of the world was in lockdown, Lucy wrote her third book and her first novel which was published in 2023, with a sequel on the make.

Lucy’s exceptional leadership, entrepreneurial acumen, and strategic expertise have been hard-won over three decades of innovation, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to kindness.

As also the founder of a successful world-first education start-up, the host of her own podcast show, Lucy’s outstanding contributions have earned her both leadership and speaking awards and she was the first and only Australian to be recognised among the world’s top 30 #socialceos and to be honoured with a Kindness Award from the Wake-Up Project.

Lucy Bloom will be attending an author talk at the Bundaberg Library on 16 July from 5.30-7.30pm.

For Lucy, this visit is the realisation of a long-held desire to visit Bundaberg to see the turtles and escape the cold down south.

“Now I can visit paradise and call it work,” she said.

“My main superpower is as a professional speaker so at the very least, those who attend this talk will get a cracking good speech.

“I’ll speak about how I came to be an author three times in three different genres, while having three kids and three careers – I love a good triplet.”

Interestingly thought, when asked what questions she was typically asked at the author talks, Lucy said it was about the characters in her books.

“The real people in my memoir and the fictitious ones in my novel and who appears in both.

“I have one friend who appears in all three of my books and one of the favourite characters in The Manuscript is based on her.”
