Bigger isn’t better

We’ve become a nation of sheep.

Whether we’re left or right or something in-between we’ve lost our own ability to critically think.

Electric vehicles are the epitome of sheepness.

Expensive, often impractical, status grabbing lumps of cars.

Why do we need them?

Zero emissions you say?

Healthy for the planet you chant?

Well, yes they could be.

They are also expensive and a massive burden on an electrical network that can’t cope with the expansion required.

Billions of our money is needed for this system.

Now at a time of “green” thinking it’s alarming to read through multiple news outlets that Standards Australia has recommended increasing the standard sizes of parking spaces.

Why?

Apparently we all want massive cars.

Massive fuel guzzling status grabbing lumps.

So big, they don’t fit in our traditional spaces.

Stupid, isn’t it?

The most sold vehicle in Australia is the Toyota Hilux (large ute) which at worst consumes 11.1 L/km of fuel.

A Suzuki Swift (small car) for example at its worst consumes 6.1L making it 45 per cent more efficient than the best selling vehicle in Australia.

Now imagine for a second instead of spending billions going fully electric as fast as we can, we actually just purchased smaller cars.

I dare say the majority of the population would easily survive the change and we’d save billions along the way.

The simplest solutions are often the easiest.

If only we stopped to think, should we actually slow ourselves down?
